About this department
The Buildings Department is mandated to design, construct, and maintain government buildings in the most cost-effective manner that will stimulate economic growth, poverty alleviation, and the reduction of HIV/AIDS. The department handles design, construction, and maintenance of all government institutional and residential buildings, serving as the implementation agency for government ministries' capital programmes. Its headquarters comprises seven divisions — Architectural, Structural and Civil, Quantity Surveying, Contracts, Construction, Maintenance, and Electrical — supported by regional depots in Mbabane, Manzini, Piggs Peak, Nhlangano, and Siteki.
Functions
Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and maintain all government institutional and residential buildings
- Act as implementation agency for government ministries' capital programmes
- Commission private consultants for design where required
- Contract construction work to private firms
- Operate maintenance units in Mbabane, Manzini, Piggs Peak, Nhlangano, and Siteki
- Maintain and enhance the value of government building assets
